We got our architect!

We are going to be working with Bill Teramorse.  Adrian worked with Bill on many telecommunications sites in the late 90s and we really like him and his wife Tunde.  When I spoke to Bill last week after he saw our Concept Ideas package and this website, he was all for it.  We're really excited with the idea of working with someone we know and like.  Bill totally understood where we are coming from as far as what we want in our building materials and how to work with them.  As we work on solidifying our plans, we'll toss some initial sketches and such up on this site (barring copyright laws and the such).

As Adrian and I have thought about this project, we've come to realize that building the "big house" first is not in our best interest.  We both really want to leave LA and most likely the country.  That being said, it makes no sense to build a huge house that we may not get to use if we do move in a few years.  There have been some changes with our new designs.

The project will most likely be on an infill lot.  Most of the sites we're looking at have a street frontage of about 35' - 50', but are 98' - 160' deep.  Some of them are upslope lots, so that needs to be taken into consideration with the pool.  We would like our house to built at "green" as possible and no more than 1800sf.  The home would need to have the following:

  • Master Suite with private patio/deck

  • 2 Bedrooms where one can be used as an office for us both.

  • Washer and Dryer upstairs or near bedrooms

  • 2 car garage with porte cochere (lot permitting) or carport

  • Natural flow from great room to outdoor living.

  • I would like to have a fireplace that can be used in the great room FDR and outside.  I'm thinking something circular with built-in shelving and seating

  • We prefer a lot of natural light and a more organic living situation

  • Outside needs to have a built-in BBQ, bar and fireplace/pit

  • Space for a vegetable and herb garden

  • All plantings must be California natives or hardy enough to live in this zone.

  • Grotto-like pool and spa inspired by traditional Zen gardens - due to space limitations, we have no problem with an above-ground pool and spa

  • Cabana that can double as an outdoor theatre attached to the above mentioned bar
